Djurgårdsbrunns Wärdshus originally had two bowling alleys. Lilla Kägelbanan is located on the smaller of the two. Until 1820, there were still sugar stands here. The original section was designed and built by the renowned architect Fredrik Blom. The current owner used this section as a model for the building constructed in 1972, which was subsequently expanded in 1986.
The original facade on the front short side was designed by Fredrik Blom, who also designed Rosendal and the Royal Palace at Gärdet. Fredrik Blom was known in his day for his beautiful wooden buildings.
For many years after the turn of the last century, the Klothilda skittles club met regularly at Lilla Kägelbanan to play skittles and enjoy a drink. The club was founded and led by Anders Zorn, and its members included his closest friends from the art and literary worlds, Carl Larsson and Albert Engström.
The Royal Djurgården Administration (KDF) is led by a palace steward, and its primary mission is to manage the King’s private right of use to Djurgården and the royal right of use to Haga and Ulriksdal.
This responsibility includes preserving the historic cultural landscape, caring for the existing natural environment, adapting the area to meet people’s desire for a stimulating leisure and recreational environment, and ensuring that future needs are met.
The residential tenants on Djurgården formed an association 15 years ago, which looks after the tenants’ common interests and, among other things, negotiates rent amounts collectively with the Djurgården Administration.
