Askrikevägen 17a - Askrike, Lidingö
One of Askrike’s most distinctive National Romantic-style villas offers an exceptionally lavish and meticulously designed turn-of-the-century apartment of 203 square meters, with an additional 28 square meters of ancillary space. A home with a distinct sense of grandeur, where classic features and period architecture meet modern functionality in a remarkably cohesive whole.
The exceptionally well-planned floor plan is one of the apartment’s greatest strengths. The centrally located living room with a fireplace serves as the home’s natural focal point and flows seamlessly into the spacious kitchen and the renovated outdoor terrace. Five bedrooms are thoughtfully placed in more private areas of the home, one of which features its own balcony. A separate TV room, two bathrooms, ample built-in storage, as well as both a formal entryway via the veranda and a practical utility entrance create an exceptionally functional layout for both family life and larger gatherings. An internal staircase leads to the upper-level utility areas, featuring a renovated laundry room and generous storage spaces.
The interior is characterized by classic turn-of-the-century features such as mullioned windows, beautiful woodwork, carefully crafted moldings, generous ceiling heights, and sanded hardwood floors. The complete renovation was carried out with great care in 2022, when the surface finishes were refined, the moldings were replaced, and the ceilings were rebuilt to further enhance the home’s original character. The entryways feature Kolmård marble, a recurring and elegant material choice that provides the home with a solid foundation.
The hand-painted pine kitchen from SNEK is custom-built for the room and finished in a classic, muted shade. Kolmård marble countertops, brass hardware, and appliances from Siemens and Bertazzoni create a refined and luxurious atmosphere, while the direct access to the terrace makes the kitchen a natural gathering place for both daily life and entertaining. Both bathrooms were renovated in the same year and feature a classic design with brass fixtures and sinks from Burlington. All fixed lighting, burglar alarms, and motion detectors can be controlled and monitored remotely.
The villa was designed in 1909 by an unknown architect and built the following year. According to the original plans, the house was originally built as the Berg Sisters’ orphanage. The National Romantic architectural style remains prominent in the red wooden facade, the broken-pattern brick roof, the mullioned windows, the large southwest-facing veranda, and the house’s several balconies. Particularly beautiful is the preserved front staircase with its ornate woodwork—a lovely reminder of the building’s history.
The result is a personal and exceptionally elegant home, where the spirit of the turn of the century has been preserved and enhanced through uncompromising material choices, modern comforts, and a floor plan of exceptionally high quality.
A warm welcome to viewing!
In 2022, the entire home was completely renovated
