INTERESTING FACTS
The main entrance is at Grevgatan 5. The entrance is framed by a tall limestone portal with a pointed arch and is inspired by Gothic architecture. The entrance hall inside is lavishly decorated. It features a white marble floor with a black border and white marble stair treads. The base was crafted from red-and-white-striped marble, and the walls—divided into panels—are marbled and painted in shades of yellow. The upper portion of the walls and the ceiling are divided by corbels and beams. The frieze and ceiling are decorated with floral garlands in muted pastel tones.
Above the entrance door, on the inside, there is an inscription in gold letters: “Home is worth its weight in gold.” The Gothic motif continues in the design of the inner door and in the pointed-arch, leaded stairwell windows. The stairwell ceiling is light blue and adorned with painted floral garlands.
The original layout of the apartments was as follows, by floor: one six-room apartment with a kitchen (facing Grevgatan and the wing facing the courtyard), one seven-room apartment with a kitchen (at the corner of Grevgatan and Kaptensgatan), and one three-room apartment with a kitchen (facing Kaptensgatan). The latter could only be accessed via the kitchen staircase in the courtyard. All apartments had an indoor toilet; some did not have bathrooms, which were added during a modernization in the 1930s. Heating was provided by tiled stoves and open fireplaces; central heating was installed in the 1940s.
The apartments were renovated over the years; among other things, one of the residential units was converted into an office, and additional apartments were built in part of the attic.
