Located in Sweden’s best-preserved villa community from the turn of the last century is Villa Widén, a charming villa built in 1923 as a pastiche of a classic Swedish manor house. The house retains beautiful original details from the year it was built and is well-suited as a family home, with living areas on the ground floor and four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the upper floor. The building is currently in need of some renovation, but this is a high-quality home. It features a flat garden with old fruit trees and a garage at the back. Welcome to a classic home in the unique residential neighborhood of Storängen, just seven kilometers from downtown Stockholm.

Building description

The building was designed by Nils R. Hjort as a residence for bank accountant Johan Gottfried Widén. The exterior of the house bears clear characteristics of a classic Swedish manor house, with a symmetrical façade, a frontispiece, shutters, pilasters, and a base of hewn granite. Inside, the details reflect the building’s 1923 construction year, featuring herringbone-patterned parquet flooring, mullioned windows, and a space-efficient floor plan. The current owner purchased the house in 1957 and is now selling it due to advancing age. The property is being sold with a disclaimer regarding any defects.

STORÄNGEN

The Storängen villa community was founded around the turn of the last century by and for senior civil servants seeking to escape the city’s “unhealthy” housing conditions. Modern villas designed by the era’s most prominent architects were built on large lots. The residents of Storängen collectively own the large “Ängen” park and the Tennis Park, and everyone has access to Storängen Co-ed School’s beautiful banquet hall, Storängssalen http://www.storangssalen.se/, the Storängen Lawn Tennis Club, and a vibrant community of clubs and organizations.
