Built in 1911 with the distinct character of an 18th-century manor house, this stately villa was designed by Carl Kempendahl, an architect well-known in the area. The property has had only four owners since it was built. The 2,251-square-meter lot is situated between Ringparken to the west and the sparkling waters of Duvnäsviken to the east. With 327 square meters of living space and nine rooms plus a kitchen, the home features beautiful, spacious living areas for entertaining as well as up to six bedrooms. Many fine original details have been preserved. Wine cellar, sauna, and laundry room in the basement. Well-maintained garden with a charming cobblestone-paved courtyard, lawns bordered by boxwood, flower beds, fruit trees, established hedges, and trees. A gravel-paved, terraced path leads down toward Skepparbacken. The rear terrace offers beautiful views of the bay. The property features several outdoor seating areas, sheds, and a carport. Welcome to the Manor House, which, with its charming and unique design, has been something of a landmark in Saltsjö-Duvnäs for over a century.

Architecture and History

This culturally and historically significant building at Ringparken 3 is known as Herrgårdsvillan (formerly Villa Vårgård). The building was constructed in 1910–1911 based on designs by architect Carl Kempendahl as a model villa for AB Saltsjö-Dufnäs Villatomter.

In 1906, Kempendahl joined the banking firm E. Öhman jr. in Stockholm, which had been founded that same year with a focus on real estate transactions, where he became construction manager. Thor Thorén and Ferdinand Boberg also joined the firm. In 1907, Öhman and two partners founded AB Saltsjö-Duvnäs Villatomter. Kempendahl was hired by the real estate company as construction manager and consultant and is responsible for a number of villas in Saltsjö-Duvnäs in the late Art Nouveau and National Romantic styles.

The villa was inaugurated on June 20, 1911, and was initially used by the villa company. According to a contemporary advertising brochure, the villa was the most expensive option the company had to offer. It stated: “A magnificent manor-style villa with 7 rooms and a kitchen, entry hall, central heating, bathroom, WC, etc., along with a separate utility building, lot, and landscaped garden, for sale for 35,000 kronor.” That was more than double the price of a standard 5-room villa. No further model villas of the manor house type were built. In 1912, the villa was acquired by art historian Holger Nyblom. In 1915, he described in the magazine “Svenska hem i Ord och Bilder” why he moved to Duvnäs:

“What attracted me most when I moved to Dufnäs was the blend of ancient culture and rich, unspoiled nature that characterizes the place and the surrounding landscape. To find, so close to a major city, the wild forest alongside centuries-old gardens and parks, where old farms lie nestled in the shade of linden trees and lilac hedges and where the bustling waterways encompass a large part of the area, is something quite unique for a residential community. Long before the current company took over Dufnäs and transformed it into a modern residential community, I was already captivated by it. There was a very special charm of old-fashioned homeliness and varied natural beauty over the area that enchanted and drew me in.'
