Moholm Manor 56 - Västergötland, Moholm
Moholms Herrgård stands majestically in the Skaraborg countryside, surrounded by a fairytale park with inviting lawns and mighty lime and oak trees. Moholms Herrgård, with its symmetrical neoclassical features, is located in Västergötland between Lake Vänern and Lake Vättern, although the feeling of being in the English countryside is not far off. The manor house is located on its own island in the Tidan River, where it has stood since 1766 with an impressive area of 900 square meters and 17 rooms. The main building is divided into many beautiful halls and rooms in a row, a kitchen on the lower floor where time has stood still, a magnificent hall that runs through the house, and a kitchen on the upper floor adjacent to two large dining rooms.
As the property is on an island, the location is very private, with a long beach and never far from the water, all this just a two-hour train ride from Stockholm and close to the small community with services such as a school up to grade 6.
Other buildings on the property include a wing, a garden house, a stable building with a garage, and a greenhouse. The wing building has a total of ten rooms, eight of which are double rooms with shower and toilet, all of which are personally and tastefully decorated.
The garden house has a living area of 130 square meters and is currently rented out. The stable building contains four stalls with a tack room and a garage. The 40 sqm greenhouse is used to grow kitchen vegetables or flowers, depending on your preferences. The land is an impressive 17 hectares, divided into 9.5 hectares of pasture, 5.5 hectares of parkland, and approximately two kilometers of shoreline. Welcome to a wonderful natural bathing spot in Tidan!
The main building was constructed in 1766 by Märtha Margaretha Bonde, wife of Carl Sparre. The architect was Carl Johan Cronstedt (1709–1777), also known as the inventor of the modern tiled stove.
In 1859, a railway station was opened on the border between the parishes of Mo and Hjälstad on what was then the new Western Main Line. It was named Moholm, after the manor house located east of the community. In 1874, a branch line connecting Mariestad with the main line was opened, and Moholm became a railway junction.
