Västerled 15 - Äppelviken, BROMMA
On quiet, cozy streets lies Äppelviken's perhaps most popular housing association with beautiful 1920s houses. The English terraced houses were designed by architect Gunnar Wetterling and are characterized by classic 1920s attributes such as plastered facades, lattice windows, shutters, ceiling rosettes, and fireplaces. The two-story house has a furnished attic, basement, and its own front yard and enclosed garden.
Brf Drivbänken 1 consists of four rows of townhouses—Alviksvägen, Äppelvikstorget, Radhusallén, and Västerled. The complex also includes two trash sheds, a shared courtyard with a flagpole, and a small playground. Each townhouse apartment has its own small front yard and a long, narrow garden in the back. The yards are bordered by flower beds and hedges. The neighborhood, known as Drivbänken 2, was designed by architect Gunnar Wetterling—primarily based on German models, but also drawing inspiration from English ones. Hence its popular nickname: the English Townhouses. Construction began in 1919, and the houses were ready for occupancy in 1923.
The Drivbänken neighborhood is “blue-marked,” which means that the cultural-historical value of the buildings meets the requirements for listed buildings under the Cultural Heritage Act. This means that the buildings must not be altered in a way that distorts their character. Any alterations must be carried out with care, taking the character of the building into account. This classification is based on the Planning and Building Act and is used by the municipality in its work on detailed planning and building permit reviews. The association takes great care to preserve the original character of the buildings, with stuccoed facades, mullioned windows, and gabled roofs covered with single-cup roof tiles. The association is responsible for exterior maintenance, while individual members are responsible for the interior maintenance of their respective apartments. The roofs were replaced in 2008. Doors and windows were renovated in the summer of 2016. The property is freehold, so no ground rent is payable.
Each member is responsible for the interior maintenance of their unit, as well as heating, electricity, and water consumption. Basic cable TV and trash collection are included in the monthly fee. The association has property insurance (included in the fee), while members are expected to have their own home insurance with a condominium rider.
The association has an informative website, http://drivbanken1.se/
