The building was constructed in 1897–98 based on plans by architect A. G. Forsberg. In 1913, parts of the attic were expanded with a frontispiece facing Danderydsplan. The frontispiece was demolished during the renovation in 1968, when the remaining parts of the attic were converted into apartments. The 1968 addition is significantly lower than the 1913 addition. Changes were also made to the apartments during the 1969 renovation. In 2022–23, another attic floor was completed.
During the 1870s and 1880s, the City Council adopted the so-called Lindhagen Plan, and in accordance with it, the boundaries of the Lärkan and Domherren blocks were established. The Lärkan block was the first to be developed, and thus the area took its name, Lärkstaden or Lärkstan.
Across from Östermalmsgatan is the School of Architecture. After the School of Architecture left “its” building and moved to KTH, the space is now home to a number of startups and the nationally renowned bakery and café Mr. Cake. The building has been renamed A-House.
